My dad

In case you didn’t hear, my dad passed away on November 5th. Thankfully we were able to travel home, given that my work offers extended days for bereavement and Stephen’s covers some emergency travel for him.  First of all, here are some great pics of my dad:                                       …

Second random update

Ok, here’s the other random pics to catch y’all up! Our secretary was engaged to be married in The spring, but her mom was leaving to live with her husband in the states at the end of the month, so they go married the weekend before she left, which meant we needed to throw a…

Well, it’s been a long while, what with Internet woes (someone off the Ivory Coast was hacking the fiber optic line that brings us internet- crazy!), some busyness at school with Halloween, Liberian thanksgiving, and a performance night for our after school club kiddos, and mostly with traveling back to the states for my dad’s…

Kendeja Resort

Last Monday was Columbus Day, and we didn’t have school. Since The Biggest One had just returned from Tappita, he took the day off and we went to the beach with one of my coworkers, S.  We went east, to Kendeja Resort. The only other time The Biggest One had gone was with coworkers on…

So sad

Please keep my school’s maintenance man, George and his family in your prayers. His 12 year old son passed away unexpectedly last night. I am so heartbroken for them. I just can’t imagine the pain of losing a child.

so much randomness!

Holy cow. I’ve been trying to post this since Saturday night. I have tried to upload the pictures at least three times each. Even last night the Internet was so wonky that I almost couldn’t place our Amazon order that The Biggest One is bringing back with him. 😛 I’m guessing everyone was on the…

The Road to Tappita

I’ve let the wife have enough fun with this blog. Here’s an update from yours truly, ripe with photos from the field. As you may know, Liberia has two distinct seasons: rainy and dry. Rainy season runs from approximately May to October and is characterized by, well, rain. Lots and lots and lots and lots…

Internet

So, it’s really difficult to post when the Internet is in and out, but mostly out, every weekend (almost like clockwork!) It seems that any time I remember to post, that’s when it’s out. I will try to make a post during the week sometime now, since the Internet seems to be relatively fine then. …

Ugh

I haven’t shared the voting info because the picture was disqualified. I’m pretty sure it’s because you can’t see her diaper so she looks naked. I’m so sad. I’m trying to take other good ones but it’s just not the same. *le sigh* I tried to edit these next few on the computer, but none…

Gerber Contest and a Bale Party!

Well folks, I wanted to share lots of the pictures I took during my ‘frantically shoot some cute pics before the sun goes down since it’s already 6 and Stephen leaves tomorrow with the good camera’ Gerber baby photo contest, but the internet is taking FOR-EV-ER tonight, so I’ll just share the couple on my…

Rainy Walking

On Saturday we got out in the rain for a 1 mile walk.  What got us out there, on a Saturday morning in the rain, you ask?   Our friend back home shared with us about her cousin’s daughter, Grace, who was diagnosed with a very rare disease that will probably keep her from seeing her 10th birthday….

Multi-age mastery-based flexible grouping system.

Yes. All of those words. Sometimes we chant them together as a school. It’s a little crazy. But it’s also a pretty cool program. The kids take adaptive tests throughout the year and we juggle them around to where they are with their academic peers. It’s kind of like differentiation across  first-fifth grade. Anyway, this…
